WW1 Royal Navy RFR Russian Medal

For Zeal Group (6)

On 5 February 1915 HMS Jupiter was detached from guard duty to serve temporarily as an icebreaker at Archangel, Russia, while the regular icebreaker was undergoing a refit. HMS Jupiter was the first ship ever to get through the ice into Arkhangelsk during the winter, her arrival in February being the earliest recorded. Tsar Nicholas II authorised the issue of medals commemorating this feat to all officers and seamen serving on the ship. Royal Navy medals were officially impressed and permission for wear authorised by King George V.

An original and rare medal group to a Royal Navy stoker, officially impressed naming with name inverted on the Medal For Zeal and all original ribbons.
